How Your Surgery Is Done
The Gastric Sleeve procedure is done laparoscopically (often known as “keyhole surgery”).
You will be asleep and under general anaesthesia during the surgery.
5 small incisions (cuts) will be made on your upper abdomen.
A camera will be inserted, and the abdominal cavity will be filled with gas.
The attachments of the stomach to other organs are divided and the stomach is stapled off and removed through the slightly larger right side incision.
All the incisions are closed with absorbable stitches, covered with waterproof dressings.
Before the surgery, the average stomach is able to hold 4-6 cups. After surgery it will only hold ½ to 1 ½ cups.
